Laura Abla and Dani Olmo: What the Ring After the World Cup Win Really Reveals

The key facts at a glance

  • Laura Abla and Dani Olmo have been a couple since around 2023 and made the relationship public in early 2024. Today they live together in Barcelona.
  • The engagement rumour started after the World Cup final, because a striking ring was visible in a photo of the two of them. Both commented on the picture with "forever".
  • People close to the couple said the proposal had happened long before the final. The couple themselves have confirmed nothing to this day. Asked about it in an interview, Laura Abla answered with a smile and called it a nice rumour.
  • In our assessment this is a Threestone ring with an Emerald Cut in the centre and two Trillions on the sides.
  • We estimate the centre diamond at around 10 Carat and the ring at roughly one million Euro. This is not a confirmed figure, because no official images exist.

A rumour has been going strong since the summer. In this photo taken after the final was won, Laura Abla is wearing a ring that made a lot of people think of an engagement straight away. Nothing has been confirmed to this day. What can be assessed, however, is the ring itself. We have worked with engagement rings and diamonds for more than thirty years and have taken a close look at the available images.

Laura Abla and Dani Olmo: what is known about the relationship

The two have been a couple since around 2023. They made the relationship public in early 2024. They very probably met during the period when Dani Olmo was playing for RB Leipzig. Laura Abla is a German influencer and model, Dani Olmo a Spanish international.

Today they live in Barcelona. The couple handle the relationship rather discreetly in public. That is precisely why every picture they do share carries so much weight, and precisely why a single photo turned into an international discussion within a few hours.

How the engagement rumour started

The trigger was a joint photo taken after the World Cup final. A striking ring was visible on Laura Abla's finger that had not been noticed in earlier images from the tournament. Then there was the caption. She wrote "you forever", he replied with "forever". For many people, that settled it.

People close to the couple subsequently confirmed the engagement. The same sources also said the proposal had taken place well before the final. Laura Abla and Dani Olmo themselves have said nothing about it to this day. Asked about the subject in an interview, she answered with a smile and called it a nice rumour.

For us, the status therefore remains unchanged. There are strong indications and there is no confirmation. Both at the same time.

Why this ring is so difficult to assess

It is not at all easy to judge this ring properly. There are no official images. What is circulating are crops from social media posts, taken from a great distance, compressed and artificially sharpened. That is not enough for a reliable assessment.

What makes the confusion complete is the hand. The ring is worn on the right and not, as is customary for an engagement ring in Germany, on the left. That allows two readings. Either the couple are following the Spanish tradition, in which the right hand is the ring hand. Or it is simply a dress ring and not an engagement ring.

Right hand or left hand

In Germany the engagement ring sits on the left ring finger and moves to the right hand for the wedding, where the wedding ring joins it. In Spain it is worn on the right from the start. If you have a connection to a country with a different tradition, we discuss that before we start making the ring. The reason is practical rather than symbolic. Most people have different finger circumferences on the two hands, often half a size to a full size apart. Anyone who notices this only after the ring is finished needs a proper determination of the ring size after the fact.

The ring in detail: Threestone with an Emerald Cut and two Trillions

Threestone Ring mit Emerald Cut Diamant und zwei Trillions von Designer Diamonds

In our assessment this is a Threestone ring. An Emerald Cut sits in the centre. It is flanked by two Trillions. This combination is rare, high quality and chosen very deliberately.

The Emerald Cut in the centre

The Emerald Cut is a step cut. Instead of many small triangular facets, broad parallel steps run around the table. This does not create a restless carpet of sparkle but long, calm flashes of light. Specialists call it the hall of mirrors effect.

This cut is mercilessly honest. Because the large table lets the eye look deep into the diamond, every inclusion and every colour tint shows immediately. In a brilliant, the sparkle hides a great deal. In an Emerald Cut it does not. That is exactly why this cut is held to above average standards of clarity and colour, and exactly why it is regularly more expensive at the same carat weight than many people expect. If shapes like this interest you, our article on Fancy Cut diamonds covers the technical background.

The two Trillions on the sides

Trillions are trapezoidal diamonds with brilliant facets. They are therefore not a smaller second edition of the centre diamond but work in exactly the opposite way optically. Where the Emerald Cut appears calm and flat, the Trillions scatter short, lively light. This contrast is the real design trick in the ring.

In craft terms, Trillions are demanding. Their points are the most vulnerable places on the entire ring. If they are set too tightly, something will chip there sooner or later. We therefore work with prongs that cover the points completely, and we set the Trillions marginally lower than the centre diamond. The ring looks more closed as a result and takes considerably more wear in daily life.

Why three diamonds in particular

The Threestone ring traditionally stands for past, present and future. It is therefore one of the few ring forms with a clear narrative meaning. There is also a very practical advantage. The side diamonds extend the optical axis of the ring. The centre diamond appears larger as a result, without a single carat being added.

Carat and value: our assessment

Fittingly for Dani Olmo's shirt number, we estimate the centre diamond at around 10 Carat. In our expert view, roughly one million Euro will have been invested in this ring.

That figure needs context. Media reports quote partly much lower values and also a different cut shape. That is understandable, because in blurred images taken from a great distance step facets quickly look like a soft, cushion like outline. In the available pictures we see the straight edges and the calm light behaviour of a step cut and classify the ring accordingly.

As a rule, the same caution applies to every estimate made from a photo. The focal length of a phone enlarges everything closer to the lens. There is no known reference scale in the image, and finger width varies by several millimetres from person to person. With an Emerald Cut there is also the length to width ratio, which produces very different surface areas at the same carat weight. An estimate remains an estimate. Certainty comes only from an independent certificate.

What drives the price of this ring is not the weight alone. It is the combination. An Emerald Cut of this size requires very high clarity, because it conceals nothing. Added to that are two Trillions that have to match the centre diamond exactly in colour and clarity. Finding precisely matched side diamonds in this quality often takes longer than the search for the centre diamond itself.

What you can take from this for your own ring

A ring of this magnitude is not the benchmark for most people. The principle behind it certainly is. A Threestone with an Emerald Cut and Trillions works at one carat exactly as it does at ten. The effect comes from the contrast between the facet types, not from the weight.

Three points are decisive in our view. First, clarity. With an Emerald Cut you should never buy on the certificate alone, but look at the diamond from above. Second, the height of the setting. Anyone who works a lot with their hands is better served long term by a slightly flatter construction. Third, the matching of the side diamonds, because a minimal difference in colour shows immediately when three diamonds sit next to each other.

If you would like to explore a combination like this for yourself, you can put it together in our configurator or browse our selection of engagement rings directly. If you are already thinking a step further, our wedding rings include matching companion models that sit cleanly against a Threestone.

Whether it turns out to be an engagement ring or a dress ring remains open. Either way it is beautiful. And we are curious to see whether the engagement is confirmed at some point or not. If you are looking for further examples, you will find them among the ten most beautiful engagement rings or, as a counterpoint, among the worst engagement rings of all time.

Frequently asked questions

Are Laura Abla and Dani Olmo engaged?

It has not been confirmed. People close to the couple said the proposal had already taken place before the World Cup final. The couple themselves have not commented on it.

What has Laura Abla said about the rumours?

Asked about the subject in an interview, she only smiled and called it a nice rumour. There was neither a confirmation nor a denial.

How long have Laura Abla and Dani Olmo been a couple?

Since around 2023. They made the relationship public in early 2024. They very probably met during his time at RB Leipzig. Today they live in Barcelona.

What cut shape does the ring have?

In our assessment it is a Threestone ring with an Emerald Cut in the centre and two Trillions on the sides. There are no official photos that would allow a certain judgement.

What is a Trillion diamond?

A Trillion is a trapezoidal diamond with brilliant facets. It is usually used as a side diamond next to a larger centre diamond and reinforces its effect with lively scattered light.

How many carat does the ring have?

We estimate the centre diamond at around 10 Carat. This figure is based exclusively on publicly available images and therefore comes with a considerable margin.

What does a ring of this kind cost?

In our expert view, roughly one million Euro will have been invested in this ring. What matters here is not only the carat weight but above all clarity, colour and the exact matching of the two Trillions.

Why does Laura Abla wear the ring on her right hand?

In Spain the right hand is traditionally the ring hand. In Germany the engagement ring sits on the left and moves to the right for the wedding. The position of the hand alone therefore allows no certain conclusion.

Is an Emerald Cut suitable for everyday wear?

Yes. The bevelled corners are less vulnerable than pointed shapes. More important than the cut is the height of the setting, because a high set ring catches on things more often in daily life.

What should I pay particular attention to when buying an Emerald Cut?

Clarity and the length to width ratio. The step cut shows inclusions openly. In Munich and Augsburg we therefore always lay several diamonds next to each other under the microscope before you decide.

Can I have a Threestone ring made individually?

Yes. We make Threestone rings in our own goldsmith workshop in Augsburg and match the centre diamond and the side diamonds to each other. In the configurator you can try out different combinations beforehand.

Is this look also available with lab grown diamonds?

Yes. The design works regardless of the origin of the diamond. We have summarised the differences between the two options in our comparison of lab grown and natural diamonds.

Your ring, made in our own workshop

We advise you in Munich on Hanauer Strasse and in Augsburg on Jakober Strasse. Your ring is made in our goldsmith workshop in Augsburg, with all certificates on the table.
